Consequences
Last year tied with 2005 of the warmest year on record. Scientist predict that in the next century temperature could rise 7.2 degrees Fahrenheit if we don't reduce emissions. Around the world, global warming is impacting many factors of life. Ice caps in the Arctic are melting which is raising the sea level. If all the ice caps in the world melted the sea would rise approximately 200 feet. 200 feet may not seem like much but a lot of major cities in the United States are at sea level, and if the water rose that much most of these cities would be submerged. Even though the temperature of the earth is rising, all the ice caps will not melt unless there is a dramatic change in the Earth's weather patterns. But this is still a major problem, because even if the sea level rose just a couple of inches this would dramatically effect major low land cities around the United States.
All over the world, we are being effected by climate change. If global warming continues at this rate many key factors in our environment will be out of whack. Hurricanes and storms are likely to become stronger. Species that depend on each might become out of sync because of different animals becoming extinct and animals moving to area that environments are better for them. Floods and droughts will become more common and will effect different areas that are not used to these climate changes. Some diseases may spread, which may cause outbreaks around the world. And ecosystems will change. Some animals will move because of the new climate they are encountering which will cause devastation for other animals that rely on them.
These consequences will greatly effect our daily lives and make the world we live in a completely different place from what we know of now. These changes we can prevent by reducing emissions that are going into the atmosphere and heating up our planet.
